Everyone has the right to equal opportunities for work, play, health and success. For people living with a disability, the challenges of pursuing those opportunities are numerous. 3 December is International Day of Persons with Disabilities, offering a chance to examine — and work to remove — the barriers people face. This internationally recognised day offers ways to break down barriers and enable people to live their best lives.
More than 1.3 billion people experience significant disability today, which represents 16% of the global population.1 Many persons with disabilities die earlier, are at increased risk of developing a range of health conditions, and experience more limitations in everyday functioning than the rest of the population.1
International Day of Persons with Disabilities provides an opportunity for people to embrace alternative paths to care such as virtual options. Addressing disparities and creating better ways forward will take a group effort but can benefit everyone in the long run.2
UnitedHealthcare Global is committed to providing comprehensive and inclusive resources to support individuals with disabilities. By prioritising accessibility and understanding, UnitedHealthcare Global strives to empower individuals with disabilities to live their lives confidently and safely.
