July 28th is World Hepatitis Day
Every year on July 28th, the global health community observes World Hepatitis Day (WHD). This day offers a unique opportunity to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and draw attention to the challenges posed by these infections which impact more than 354 million people worldwide.1
Viral hepatitis comprises a group of infectious diseases, designated as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E. These diseases cause both acute and chronic liver disease, resulting in over one million deaths worldwide every year.2 While tuberculosis and HIV-related deaths have been declining, hepatitis-related fatalities continue to increase.2
‘We’re not waiting’ is the call to action for WHD 2023.3 It’s a call to accelerate elimination efforts of viral hepatitis, the need for testing and treatment for the people who need it. Learn more about the campaign and how to get involved.
