Read Dr. Amit Arwindekar's note on World Prematurity Day:

world-prematurity-day-21The joy of welcoming a child can quickly turn to distress, anxiety, and fear when we learn that child may be born prematurely. Across the world, 15 million babies are born prematurely.1 Thanks to advances in neonatal care in the last 30 years, the majority of those babies are able to grow, develop and prosper. The earlier a baby is born, the more vulnerable they are to health complications2 and the more chance there is of them needing significant time and support in a neonatal unit before they are strong and healthy enough to go home.

November 17th is World Prematurity Day – a time when organisations across the world unite to raise awareness of premature birth and honour, remember and acknowledge the families, caregivers and healthcare providers who have been touched by prematurity. - Dr. Amit Arwindekar, Medical Director, North America, UnitedHealthcare Global
