Read a short note from Dr. Shoba Subramanian about World Menopause Day:

World Menopause Day is an opportunity to stand against the taboos surrounding menopause and encourage women to speak out about their bodies and feelings. Although many find the transition difficult, it can also be a time of reflection and inspiration. Many women are said to experience a newfound sense of freedom and personal growth.1 By sharing personal experiences, we can help others who may be struggling to adapt.

Studies suggest that negative thoughts about menopause can be predictive of a more difficult time. For instance, the more negative your thoughts about hot flashes, the more intense they will be.2 It’s therefore important we look to change these attitudes and challenge the stereotypes around menopause. Additionally, many women are reluctant to tell their employer if they’re experiencing menopause symptoms during the working day.3 This can lead to stress and exacerbate symptoms.4 Employers must be aware and support women in the workplace going through this transition. Changing everyone’s outlook will help to transform the menopause experience. - Dr. Shoba Subramanian, Medical Director, Europe
