Read a short note from Dr. David Wang about Global Handwashing Day:

Today is Global Handwashing Day, a day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding around the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives. In fact, appropriate hand hygiene prevents up to 50% of avoidable infections acquired during healthcare delivery, including those affecting the health workforce. The past two years have emphasised the need for hand hygiene investments, policies, and programmes and this year’s theme, “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together,” calls for action as we work towards universal hand hygiene. There are many ways you can all get involved in Global Handwashing Day. Whether it’s planning an event to celebrate Global Handwashing Day in your office, community, or country or starting a social media campaign, every action helps to raise global awareness. There are also a variety of virtual campaigns to join in educating you on the importance of hand hygiene and options to ensure you’re incorporating regular handwashing into your day. We encourage everyone to participate in Global Handwashing Day in some way and learn more about handwashing with soap.
