Read a short note from Dr. Shoba Subramanian on Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.
Today marks the start of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week – a time to bring awareness to one of the most preventable forms of cancer affecting women.1 Cervical cancer is up to 93% preventable2 through a combination of vaccination, lifestyle changes and screening. The most effective way to prevent cervical cancer is by taking the HPV vaccine, a vaccine recommended to anyone between the ages of 9 and 26 (varies by country).2
You can also lower your chances of developing cervical cancer by quitting smoking and eating a balanced diet to support your immune system.2 The World Health Organization recommends regular screenings3 to help find and treat any cell changes in the cervix before they turn into cancer. This year, let’s do our part to bring awareness to this preventable disease and ensure that more women live cervical cancer-free lives through vaccination, screening and lifestyle changes. - Dr. Shoba Subramanian, Medical Director, Europe, UnitedHealthcare Global
